I am Jacob McCumbers, and as you know, I am running for Calhoun County Commission against Roger Propst. I have lived in Calhoun all my life with my family. I went to school in Calhoun, later attending Glenville State and receiving my degree. I currently live in Arnoldsburg with my three children: Jimmy, Tyler, and Colton. I currently am an educator and working at Arnoldsburg Elementary School. During my time and career, I was a 911 dispatcher for almost 10 years, the county assistant to the Office of Emergency Service, a volunteer firefighter, and Calhoun County EMS employee, I also serve as a county representative for the deputy sheriffs' civil service board, and the president of the local association for West Virginia Education Association where I serve as the liaison between Charleston and the local education association for Calhoun. I also serve on the Clay Co. CERT team. Over the years I was also a 4-H member and a leader, in which I started the Pleasant Hill Corn Poppers 4-H club because I knew that the youth needed something to do in that area. I volunteer my time to help with the Molasses Festival and I'm currently on the Arnoldsburg Community Park board and I'm a local beekeeper, and I enjoy working in my bee yard and harvesting honey. I also own and operate Big Daddy Ds, home of the best wiener in Arnoldsburg. I also enjoy trout fishing and hunting in my spare time.
As a county commissioner, I will utilize my experience and expertise from my background in emergency services to support the 911, ambulance, and fire departments. I will also seek out grants and work with legislation to improve the county. I have a track record of managing finances effectively and ensuring a positive balance. In addition, I will attend meetings in Charleston and collaborate with various boards, including the county park board and 911 board, to achieve our goals. I will work with individuals to establish an animal shelter and ensure the effective use of county funds. My focus will be on maintaining a balance of funds and avoiding deficits. Past track records show that some individuals have a poor concept of that. I'll seek out legislation and gain support to help with the PSD service and try to gain better water in this county.
