I’m Kevin Helmick asking for your vote on November 5th. I have lived on Nicut Road my entire life. My parents are Dennis and Cathy Helmick from Nicut. My wife is Kristy Helmick. Her parents are Forest ( June ) and Joyce Roberts, formerly of Pleasant Hill. Our daughter is Alexis Helmick, and she is currently homeschooled using the Christian-based Bob Jones program. I’ve worked for Helmick Brothers Contracting Inc. since I was 16 years old for a total of 29 years - both part-time and full-time, while going through school and since I first became a County Commissioner.
Here is a list of goals for my next term. My goals are infrastructure-focused.
I want to continue pushing for more waterlines all over the county. I’ve worked hard on this for years but there is a lot of moving parts. Including, the state, and the federal government.
We need fast, reliable internet. Without reliable internet, we can not expect small businesses to grow. There are a lot of jobs out there for people working at home working for in-state and out-of-state employers and clients. Which, saves money on gas, wear on vehicles, and child care expenses. Not to mention being able to spend more time with family instead of driving long distances.
Provide as much funding as we can for law enforcement and emergency services. Senior citizens and families in our county need to know they are safe and can get emergency services as quickly as possible.
Continue to build our county and community parks. They operate because of the great volunteers we have in the county. I want to see our kids and others enjoying the events these parks provide.
Cell Phone service and towers. Our service has continued to improve yearly but it still has a ways to go. Same as the other projects listed above, I have spent endless days and hours trying to improve cell phone service. We need to be able to go across the county without dropping service. I have worked hard to get a cell tower on the top of Broomstick and a place in the Stinson area. They have gone as far as signing contract agreements on both ends in that area. However, they are still dragging their feet as to building the actual towers.
The main responsibility of a County Commissioner is to watch over the counties money and to make sure we don’t run into deficits. Spend the money where it will do the most good for the people. This is actually where my business and accounting background comes into play. I have never voted to raise taxes since being commissioner and I have no plans of doing it. We need to live off our means as a county - just like most people should be doing at home.
Continue using contacts I have built with people over the years in Charleston and other places.
Please vote this fall to re-elect Kevin Helmick for Calhoun County Commissioner.
