Summer Wanes

Soon, sleeping will be possible without sweating. Cool nights & crickets are on the horizon. I can hear the popping of tomato jars. Yeah, I know everyone tells me to turn on the A/C and get some sleep. I cannot deal with the noise. I can sleep with crickets and screech owls. Not with A/C running. Besides, I wouldn’t be able to hear what or who is sneaking around.

The gardens are winding down; hopefully, the cellars & freezers are full. It is now time to start thinking ahead to pleasant days afield. There was a time in the not-too-distant past that dove season was pretty much the only hunting opportunity available to WV hunters. I never participated in very many dove hunts. Baking in the sun never appealed to me. I do not need dove meat; therefore I don’t hunt doves. I used to bow hunt in Maryland every year. The season always came in on September 15 the weeks leading up to that date were busy
